Instructions for authors

Instructions on how to prepare a manuscript for submission to an IGS publication:

If you encounter any problems relating to your submission please contact Cambridge University Press using the e-mail address <>

All IGS publications are published as Gold Open Access.

As of 1 January 2016, the IGS entered into a publishing partnership with Cambridge University Press (CUP). Both Annals and Journals are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence.

The 'Overleaf' online writing tool is now available to authors of Journal and Annals of Glaciology papers.

Author contribution statement

Lead authors may now add a short end-note to papers summarizing the roles and contributions of co-authors to their paper. As some co-authors contribute the majority of analysis and synthesis and others contribute by researching and collecting raw data, this would not only benefit individuals who contribute to a given study but would help authors applying for grants, new posts and other professional evaluations.

The Contribution Statement is voluntary, and should be inserted above any other acknowledgements at the end of the paper, e.g.

Example ‘Contribution statement’

A performed all calculations and wrote most of the paper, B collected data on infrared albedo measurements, C investigated snow grain morphology, D analysed the XXX data and helped in writing this paper.

Pre-submission English language editing

If English is not your first language and you are worried that your command of written English is not very good, please ask a friend or colleague with excellent English skills to check your paper before submission. This will speed up submission time considerably.

Alternatively, your manuscript can be professionally edited to improve the English before submission. Apply to the IGS office for details of professional copy editors who will be able to help. This service must be paid for by the author and does not guarantee acceptance.
