IGS co-sponsors glaciology-related workshops, educational and other events that further the IGS Objectives (https://www.igsoc.org/about/objectives). Priority will be given to travel grants and events at or in close connection with an IGS symposium or an IGS co-sponsored event.
IGS typically contributes funding up to a maximum of 3,000 GBP per event. The local organizing committee may use IGS support to, for example, fund event organization, registration or travel support for students, early career scientists or participants from developing countries, and student/ECR prizes.
Organizers of events can request support from IGS by sending a completed support-request form to the Secretary General.
At least, one of the applicants must be IGS members. IGS must be acknowledged in all relevant materials, such as event communication, web pages and flyers. A short report of the event (1-2 pages with images/photos with permission for IGS to use in its reporting, outreach or otherwise) including how the funding was spent will be required within four weeks after completion of the event.
Funding (full or partial of requested amount) will be awarded on a case-by-case basis considering how the funding will further the IGS Objectives, the degree to which the event is international in nature and the total number of applications received. Funding calls will be announced once a year with a deadline on 1 October for events organized in January-December in the following year. Applicants will be informed of decisions within 1 month of the application deadline.
Organizers and participants of events supported by IGS will be required to follow the IGS Code of Conduct and uphold the IGS Values.
