3rd Machine Learning in Glaciology

We like to gently remind you that the deadline for applications to the 3rd “Machine Learning in Glaciology” Workshop to be held from 6 – 12 September 2024 at the Finse Research Station, Norway is approaching. To apply, please fill out this form by 8 APRIL 2024 – 11:59pm (in whatever time zone you are in). The number of participants is limited to 25 and applicants will be informed about admission via email by early May.

This training workshop is designed to connect researchers at all career stages who are interested in the intersection of glaciology and machine learning. It is targeted towards people who already have experience working with at least one programming language, preferably Python, and want to increase their skills in machine learning related to glaciology.  The training course will include ca. one day of lectures on machine learning, applications to glaciology and scientific computing, and the remaining five days will be spent on a specific project. Participants can choose to work on one of two pre-defined projects, “Modelling glacier mass balance with machine learning“, or “Glacier mapping from satellite data using Deep Learning and Random Forest”. It is also possible to design your own project based on your own data and ideas in collaboration with the instructors. You can find more information on the workshop website:

https://machine-learning-in-glaciology-workshop.github.io

Costs for registration, which includes housing and all meals at the Finse Research Station will be approximately 9000 Norwegian Krones (~800€ or ~850 US$). Travel to and from Finse must be covered by the participants.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the organisers by sending an email to mlglaciology.workshop@gmail.com

We are looking forward to seeing you in Finse!
