Climate change and Sediment Cascades

Sediment Cascades and Climate Change Exploratory Workshop

25th-28th June 2024 in Los Queñes, Maule Region, Chile

This is a small, interactive workshop aimed at opening up new research directions and collaborations to explore emerging links between climate change and geomorphic hazard cascades. This focused workshop will:

  • Discuss the latest advances in identifying sediment sources, climate triggers and geomorphic cascades.
  • Build shared knowledge to innovate research ideas and strengthen regional and global collaborations.
  • Contextualize knowledge with residents’ stories and observe first-hand effects of recent extreme rainfall events on our field trip.
  • Collaborate for the future on long-term projects that amplify opportunities for training, student exchanges, and resources.

We are fortunate to be funded by the British Society for Geomorphology (BSG) which allows us to cover the accommodation and food for 15 participants.

As space is limited, we ask you to declare your interest in attending here by the 20th March 2024. For more information visit our website: www.sedimentcascades.webspace.durham.ac.uk/

*English and Spanish speakers at all career stages are welcome*

The event is co-organised by the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), Durham University (UK), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions,
