Support for Summer Schools & Workshops

The International Glaciological Society (IGS) co-sponsors workshops, summer schools and other events that advance its objectives (https://www.igsoc.org/about/objectives). Priority is given to travel grants and events linked to IGS symposia or co-sponsored activities.

IGS funding is typically up to GBP 3,000 per event and may be used for organisation costs, student/ECR travel, participation from developing countries, or prizes.

Applications must be submitted via the support-request form to the Secretary General, with at least one applicant being an IGS member. IGS must be acknowledged in event materials. A short report (1–2 pages, with images) on the event and use of funds is required within four weeks.

Funding is awarded case by case, based on alignment with IGS objectives, international reach, and number of applications. Calls are announced annually, with a deadline of 1 October for events in the following calendar year. Applicants are notified within one month.

All supported events must follow the IGS Code of Conduct and Values.

Early Career Scientist Travel Grants

This grant aims to provide financial support to early career researchers in any field of cryospheric research to enable them to attend, and participate in, conferences and meetings that are fully or partly sponsored by the IGS, up to a maximum award of £750. The grant also aims to increase participation of early-career, underrepresented minorities in cryospheric research (e.g., Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour; BIPOC), as well as those who do not have access to traditional sources of funding.
